Turkey burgers are boring… right?

Absolutely not. I hear a lot of hate for using this particular variety of ground meat to make burgers and I completely disagree with that sentiment.

What makes any good burger stand out is the flavors going on inside and the toppings you pair it with. And the best part? It’s astoundingly simple.

I don’t like to put too much into this, but just a little bit goes a long way. One thing I throw in here that didn’t make the photo shoot is worcestershire sauce.

I also like to use oats in my mix to add a bit of texture and help bind it together. If you’ve made turkey burgers before, you know they can be a little on the moist side.

I start by mixing the oats, worcestershire, grated onion, olive oil, and seasoning (your choice here, go with one you like!) and letting it meld for about 5 minutes.

Next, you can mix the meat in and start forming your patties.

Set your grill to the higher end of medium high, and I’d recommend brushing oil on the grates or drizzling some oil right on the burgers. Since turkey is much leaner than beef, there’s always the risk of it sticking.

Put a little salt and pepper on too and cook for about 5 minutes per side. I like getting some nice grill marks and a little char on the outside to give these some more flavor depth.

Once you flip, add a little more salt and pepper and cook for another 4-5 minutes. If you want cheese, add it a minute or 2 before removing them.

While they’re resting, get your toppings ready and then serve! We decided to make some sweet potato fries in the air fryer (always a solid choice) but serve these up with your favorite summertime sides.

Recipe:
• 2lbs ground turkey
• 1/2 cup grated onion
• 1/2 cup of oats (steel cut or rolled)
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
• 1 tbsp seasoning (spice mix of choice)
• salt & pepper to taste

Instructions:
1. Preheat grill to medium-high.
2. Mix onion, oats, olive oil, worcestershire sauce, and seasoning in a large bowl and let sit for 5 minutes.
3. Add ground turkey, mix thoroughly, and form patties.
4. Place burgers on preheated grill, add salt and pepper, and cook for about 5 minutes.
5. Flip, season, and cook for another 5 minutes.
6. Serve with favorite toppings, sauces, and sides.
Enjoy!
